Bale
Also: bale, paper bale, recovered paper bale
A compressed, wired bundle of recovered paper or market pulp, the standard shipping unit for bulk paper raw materials.
Pulp bales are 250 kg cubes of market pulp, wrapped in paper and wired. A typical unit (200 bales = 50 tonnes) fills a 20-foot container. Pulp bale dimensions are standardized internationally.
Recovered paper bales range from 500 kg to 1.5 tonnes depending on the density of the baler. OCC bales are typically 800 kg to 1 tonne; deinking grades are similar. Bale quality and contamination level are key purchasing specs.
